Today Rebekah and I went to the Sue Paul Banks Elementary School. I'm not going to lie, I was terrified to go there! One reason was because we had to do a short presentation and I get really nervous when I have to speak in front of people, no matter what age they are. Another reason was because I'm not as good at working with kids as I am the geriatric population. Apparently I was wrong about all of this though because I ended up having a great time!!! We presented to the children during their lunch hours. We presented to the kindergarteners and first graders from 11-11:30, and the rest of the first graders and second graders from 12-12:30. We spoke about germs, how to cover your mouth, and washing hands. At the end of our presentation we showed them a short 3 minute video on germs and washing hands. The kids loved it! They were asking a lot of questions and many of them mentioned how much they loved the video! It was so fun to be there and see them obtain the information.
After the presentations, we were asked to go to 2 different classroom to present more. We brought the glitter bug potion and black light and spread it on 2 students hands and then had them walk around the room to high-five and shake the hands of their classmates. We then showed them the results by pointing the black light on their hands so they could see how much potion they spread and to make them realize that even though you can't see germs, they're still their and the importance of washing their hands.
We spent the rest of the day discussing with the nurse her role in the school. I learned so much and had a great time! The picture on here is a drawing one of the first graders made me. It's a germ! =)
