Due to weather conditions, we were not able to go sea kayaking, therefore we decided to drive a few hours to Seward, AK and sight see! We went to the sea life center, went out to lunch/shopped, and then walked along Resurrection Bay.
The sea life center was super cool. We got to see animals of all sizes and complexities. My favorite was the sea lions who would swim around and play with each other. It was fun to watch them interact with each other. We also got to touch star fish and sea urchins. They also had an octopus that was around 80 pounds!
After that we went out to lunch at a local bar and grabbed a quick bite to eat. It was definitely a local bar because everyone stared at us as we entered. After we finished eating we walked down the main drag and looked in some stores for souvenirs. I got some stuff for my family, as did a lot of other students. After, we asked some store owners where a good spot to hike around would be, and they advised that we drive out to a spot along Resurrection Bay where we can park and walk along a beach.
As we were driving to the spot, we some pretty cool things! There were sea lions swimming around that were fairly close to us. As we were driving out further, we spotted a humpback whale! It came up about 3 or 4 times and blew some water out of its blow whole. It was awesome; I had never seen a whale before! We finally parked and then walked along the beach about a half of a mile. It was beautiful scenery.
We ended the day with a two hour drive back to Anchorage and made some dinner. It was such a fun day spent in Seward. We all got to see things we've never seen before, and learned some pretty cool things about some sea life. A day well spent!
