Our final day in Alaska was full of adventure. I started off my morning with a sunrise hike on flattop mountain trail. The view was stunning. By the time we reached the top, the moon was still full and the sun was just beginning to rise. It was freezing but worth every second.
We then went to the Alaska Native Heritage Center where they were holding a fundraiser for the Yupik tribe who need money to go Bowhead Whale hunting. There were a lot of beautiful handmade jewelry and some delicious treats for sale. There was Bowhead whale samples that a few people tried- I was too scared to try it because I heard it was super fishy and oily. After that, we broke into two groups and my group went souvenir shopping. The best part was definitely the bakery we went to after shopping. It was called Alaska Cake Studio- I got a piece of blueberry cheesecake.
By far the best part of the night was when Val, Maria, and I went driving out to the mountains with the intentions of finding the Northern lights. It was too cloudy to see them, but the sunsets along the way were out of this world.
