This experience was a once in a lifetime one packed full with adventures and learning opportunities that I was blessed to have. I can't thank the three accompanying professors enough for everything that they did for us students. Although I may have known everyone previously for leaving for the trip, I feel like a good majority of us really bonded with each other, and that in itself was a great experience. It is sad to think that we will all be graduated in less than two months, so I feel it would have been fun to do this earlier in our college career. This would have allowed us to build on those relationships even more. Not only did I learn about others, but I also learned about myself, and had a chance to realize what I'm interested in doing. I think I enjoyed doing things outside of my comfort zone, and I think travel can do that to a person. I definitely recommend that Alaska be added to everyone's bucket-list, as it truly is America's Last Frontier. There is beauty all around it, and I look forward to coming back.
I look forward to touching the lives of many people as a Registered Nurse, and I think this experience helped me form thoughts for my nursing career. We are the healing hands and it is my job to be there for patient for their holistic well-being, and consider the cultural beliefs that may be at work. Being in an environment with people I may be unfamiliar with, I have learned to appreciate how we all need each other. It is important that we use our different personalities and strengths to work together. It is crucial as a nurse to focus on not only the patient's wants and needs, but the family's as well. I also learned to not be afraid to ask questions, otherwise I might miss out on something important.
