Its been a bus few days settling into the flow of Alaskan life with some wifi issues; hence the late post. We got to Anchorage late Thursday night. The next day we went to the Alaska Heritage Center to learn about the different tribes in Alaska. Yaari, an Alaskan Native was the one who led the workshop. She told us about her culture that she grew up with. It was interesting to find out the different cultures and tribes of the state. On the same property, there were homes that represented the different tribes and what their houses would look like. It she'd some light into how they lived their lives. For example: one tribe has their homes built into the ground because they get hurricane like winds. While walking we ended up seeing a moose! It was pretty awesome.
\nOverall it was remarkable to hear about one native's life story. Yaari came to Anchorage 20 years ago. She had a very difficult time adjusting to life in the city. In her culture, there is limited eye contact and they do not shake hands. Employers were not hiring her because of those qualities. In the end, she adapted and is now doing very well.

\nThe following day we went to Alyeska Ski Resort to go skiing, snowshoeing, and snowboarding. We all had a blast but it was quite the workout. There was gorgeous views of towering mountains. There was a tram that went up to the top of the mountain where there are a couple of restaurants. It was a very cool view from the tram and from the top. By the end of the day we were all exhausted and went back to our cabin.
