Yesterday, (March 1st, 2019) was our departure day for our Alaskan capstone experience. After getting through security without any hiccups we were ready to depart for Alaska and get on with our trip. However, due to the weather we were stuck on the tarmac for 1.5 hours because we had to de-ice the plan and were stuck behind other planes that had to do the same. We finally took off on our five hour flight to Anchorage where we would be staying as a large group for the first weekend. We landed in Anchorage at roughly 9:15pm and were at our house by 10pm. The three hour time difference from Duluth, MN to Anchorage, AK had some of us dealing with a small amount of jet lag as it was 1am on our normal time.
Day 2: Day two started off with breakfast followed by a trip to downtown Anchorage. In Anchorage today was the start of the Iditarod dog race which was called "The last great race" on the banners. This was an awesome experience to witness as the amount of people and dog sled teams made it a great atmosphere. After watching many teams depart on their long journey the group explored downtown Anchorage which involved a carnival and snow sculptures. Many pictures were taken and will be uploaded soon for you to see! Looking forward to more Alaskan experiences in the next two weeks!
