Traditional healing uses ancient healing ways side-by-side with western medicine by integrating Alaska Native values, beliefs, and practices for the ultimate benefit of Alaska Native and American Indian people. Through this practice of Traditional Healing they utilize tribal doctors who take the time to address all aspects of healing through physical, mental emotional and spiritual wellness. Traditional healing requires a referral from the primary care provider so the health care team can be involved, this promotes consistent care. It was interesting to learn about this practice since this is not practiced in MN. Traditional Healing provides Healing Hands and Healing Touch, Talking circles, Consultations with Elders and much more. Only Alaska Natives and American Indians are eligible for this service since the Alaska Native Medical Center's target group is geared towards the AN/AI population. I enjoyed seeing that people care for these specific groups due to the lack of care I have seen in AI populations in MN. Alaska has made strides in their healthcare and I feel the lower 48 also needs to adapt some of these changes to make healthcare a better experience.
