I arrived in Homer, Alaska late Sunday night (March 11th). On our 4-hour road trip from Anchorage- Homer, we saw many moose, stopped for dinner in Soldotna, shared a handful of laughs, and stopped to photograph a beautiful sunset! To my surprise, we'll be staying in a beautiful log cabin for the week that overlooks the mountains. If any of you are familiar with Discovery Channel's reality show, Alaska: The Last Frontier, our cabin is on the Kilcher family's homestead (how cool?!)! For the week, Katelyn and I will primarily be working with Homer's Seldovia Village Tribe (SVT) Health and Wellness Clinic. This clinic is branched into 3 different locations: Homer, Seldovia, and Anchor Point. We will both have an opportunity to go to Seldovia at the end of the week, which I will have a separate blog post about. Seldovia is small village in Kenia Peninsula Borough, located along the Kachemak Bay. There is no road system connecting Seldovia to Homer or any other town or community. Therefore, the only access to this village is by plane or boat!
Seldovia Village Tribe Mission Statement:
To improve the health of all people in our communities by providing quality, respectful, caring, and culturally- appropriate primary, holistic and preventative care.

We arrived for our first day of work at SVT Monday morning, March 12th. We were first introduced to the staff we would be working alongside of throughout the week: MDs (doctors), PAs (physician assistants), FNPs (family nurse practitioners), RNs (registered nurses) and MAs (medical assistants). We were then given a tour of this beautiful clinic! I would have to say that the most unique aspect of SVT is that this clinic is composed of health (upper left picture), wellness (upper right picture), and dental services which is very convenient for its clients. Together, the health and wellness aspects of the clinic are referred to as "integrative services".
